Community Based Activities
Mastering the skills for home and community life.
Community based activities play a huge role in the learning and skills development of students at Focus Beyond. These activities, focused on student needs in the transition areas may include work-based learning, travel instruction, recreation/leisure activities, community awareness, and independent living activities.
True independence is knowing how to take care of yourself after school ends. Our independent living programming uses a fully equipped apartment-style home living lab to teach the daily habits needed to manage household safely.
- Culinary Art & Nutrition: Students learn how to plan a meal, create a shopping list based on a budget, safely use kitchen appliances, and cook healthy meals
- Personal Finance & Budgeting: We teach practical math including tacking expenses, understanding your paycheck stubs, and budgeting for both needs and wants
- Community Services: As students get close to exiting our program, we guide them through the process of exploring future specialized housing options, county services, day programs, and independent community living options.
